According to “Agence France-Presse”, South Korean companies have promised to launch several tablet offerings to combat Apple’s iPad, which is expected to ship to the country soon enough. SK Telecom, South Korea’s top wireless carrier, is currently hedging much of its bets on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is a 7-inch Android-powered tablet. Kim Dae-Woong, the SK spokesman, said that the company is aiming for a September launch, even if pricing and release dates are yet to be decided. Moreover, he declared that they are currently considering several tablet PCs too.
By December, LG is expected to launch its own Android tablet. KT, Apple’s local distributor in Korea, claims that it plans to release a low-end tablet before even bringing the iPad in South Korea. Lee In-Won, KT spokesman, said that the iPad may arrive in early September.
KT is supposed to have sold more than 1 million iPhones; almost 880,000 are 3G and 3GS models. 212,000 are pre-orders for the new iPhone 4, which is expected to ship sometime in September. The firm has not yet provided any solid details for the device, but monthly fees will most probably not change much if at all.
