According to an Indian government official, on August 30 there will be made a final decision on the BlackBerry services ban being considered by the government. Compromised safety that the secure communications devices can supply to militants is what the country is concerned of. RIM was given a deadline for August 31 to give Indian security officials a method to track and also read secure messages sent through BlackBerry devices.
According to an unnamed Reuters source, technical meetings will take place on August 26 and August 27 between RIM, the Indian security and telecom agencies. Ways to access corporate BlackBerry e-mail with encrypted data in a readable format are now being tested by the security agencies.
If RIM doesn’t help the Indian government find a solution to this problem, the company may no longer have the approval of doing business in the country competitively; moreover, it could lose a fast-growing market segment, which so far accounts for over one million of its almost 41 million subscribers.
