During a conference call in which the latest fiscal results were discussed, Hewlett Packard confirmed to have moved its webOS tablet to 2011. Personal Systems Group Vice President Todd Bradley answered a question regarding the so-called weakness of the company in the notebook area due mainly to the iPad and said that the new device, known unofficially as the PalmPad, would appear in early 2011. The official also confirmed that the Windows Slate enterprise-only version would be available in the near future.

Most of the details regarding the tablet are not well known yet but it could support finger and stylus touch equally. Before being acquired by Hewlett Packard, Palm used to hold its major product launches at Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The company has marked a change in its policy regarding tablets during the recent few months. Committed exclusively to slow-selling Windows convertible tablet notebooks, Hewlett Packard was the central point of CES as Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, presented the Slate. The device was considered a strike against Apple and evidence that Windows 7 could be superior. Unfortunately, when the iPad was unveiled, a few weeks later, HP’s plans were undermined. According to leaked specifications, a worse battery life as well as a higher price made the device less competitive.

The acquisition of Palm by HP had a precise goal related to tablets and was meant to make it one of the most important competitors to Apple’s iPad.
