Toshiba has recently declared that its twin-screen Libretto W100 Windows 7-based tablet PC will start shipping on August 11. Even if the final prices have not yet been announced, the tablet will most likely be priced at $1,099 when reaching the USA. This remains, however, a special edition and will probably sell quickly.

The new device relies on two 7-inch, 1024×688 multi-touch displays, which change functions based on their role. When the tablet is used like a standard notebook, the bottom screen can be used as a virtusl keyboard with haptic feedback, while the top display acts like a regular screen. Other situations can bring Toshiba’s custom UI or even turn both screens into full displays.

Motorola’s tablet benefits from an integrated accelerometer, allowing users to read e-books or online newspapers in a portrait mode, just like a traditional book. The Libretto W100 is based on an ultra-low voltage 1.2GHz Pentium US400 processor, also getting 2GB of RAM; 62GB of storage are assured by a solid state drive. The tablet is powered by an eight-cell battery and benefits from a microSDHC card slot and a single USB port, which constitute the main expansion; moreover, it gets a webcam, as well as Bluetooth for extra room.
