About a quarter of the managers working in the IT area are already using the Apple’s iPad, as ITIC claims in a study. At this moment, 23 percent of them have their own iPad and another 18 percent are planning to buy one this year. This does not mean giving iPads to employees, but suggests the spillover effect the tablet would have with business as those who control its deployment as well as that for other hardware of Apple knew very well what the device could do related to personal use.

It is believed that about 82 percent of firms were going to accentuate integration with iOS-based devices such as the iPhone and iPad so as they get corporate e-mail as well as applications. 24 percent of them, who did not have an iPhone, have switched or have planned to switch, while other 35 percent have planned to switch as soon as their contracts expired.

The use of Mac was also intended to be increased significantly, since 79 percent were favorable to allow Mac for enterprise-level desktops, while 68 percent were doing the same thing last year. Even the existing footprint has been largely extended. In 2008, two percent said to have in their companies 250 Macs or more, while this number is greater than the triple now, with seven percent.

The effect does not seem to impact significantly on the enterprise, as the predominant solutions in the United States still involve Microsoft Windows PCs and BlackBerries from Research in Motion. However, it may curb the sales of BlackBerry and also affect Microsoft’s hopes for having more businesses moved to Windows 7. Microsoft itself acknowledged that Windows XP is still used by 74 percent of companies, while many of them are hesitate to jump to Windows 7 as compatibility would be already broken.
