The approaching launch of the iPhone 4 seems to take away interest in devices like Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, Motorola or Palm, a study from ChangeWave determined. People planning to acquire an iPhone 4 have soared from 31 percent to 52 percent in a three month period beginning with March and ending in June. The BlackBerry demand was severely affected, as it dropped from the 14 percent at the end of last winter to only 6 percent this spring. The lack of an update to Motorola’s Droid brought it down to nine percent, while Palm’s demand has been killed following its acquisition.

The only important challenger to see a growing demand was HTC, the combination of the Evo4G and Droid Incredible pushing it from the 12 percent buys planned in March to not less than 19 percent last month. But this balance is susceptible to change with the nearing release of Motorola’s Droid X release.

RIM’s decline was attributed almost exclusively to users being happy with BlackBerries, according to analysts. The number of very satisfied owners of the phone has sunk from 38 percent four months ago to a historical minimum of 30 percent last month, while it was 55 percent in 2008. An already old operating system and the lack of interesting handsets made BlackBerry lose the “cool factor”, says ChangeWave.

Although Apple was itself slightly lower last month, but its 73 percent overall satisfaction, much more than the 39 percent of HTC. Research in Motion was not the lowest. Other companies, which depend on Windows Mobile or Symbian, were ranked as low as 20 percent. Among them, Nokia, Sony Ericsson.
