It seems Amazon is preparing an important overhaul of the MP3 store. According to unnamed sources, the online retailer is set to relaunch the APIs as well as web services in its store. The sources indicate that Amazon’s partners have to delay its MP3 integrations until the launch of the revamped portal.
Aside data from unconfirmed reports, the job listings of Amazon include relevant positions. There is a page on the Twitter account of the MP3 Store containing more than a dozen entries for different positions in business and engineering departments. Web Applications Manager or engineers for various mobile endeavors on different platforms like Android are listed.
Data recently gathered by NPD Group show that iTunes detains about 28 percent of the whole music distribution service in the United States. The share Amazon has is 12 percent and includes physical CDs as well as digital copies of tracks or albums. Billboard figures indicate s significantly lower number, around 1.3 percent, for the MP3 business of Amazon as an independent entity.
Amazon has to expose publicly its plans for the relaunch of the MP3 Store. Tighter integration with respect to third-party devices seems to be the focus, but details related to possible changes remain somehow unclear for the moment.
