New Burger King restaurant in Japan, with Sound Spot booths

The newest Japanese Burger King restaurant, the 32nd of this type, has new luxury commodities for audiophiles. Box-like seating made for two persons contains a dock for a portable music device like an iPhone, iPod or others, as well as an overhead, umbrella-like speaker which allows diners to listen music of their own. Seating for 220 persons is provided by the new flagship restaurant, but not all are so-called Sound Spots.

The speaker pods as well as the booths are designed to minimize distraction to other clients, but clear and loud music can be heard by the targeted audience, while not much volume is heard in the close surrounding neighbourhood.

This is one of the most recent efforts to transform American fast foods in locations more acceptable to customers belonging to Japanese culture and is not the only effort made by the chain to provide technology. An especial Windows 7 Whopper has been offered last fall in cooperation with Microsoft. Burger King has come back in Japan after an absence caused by a price war. Another competitor, Wendy’s, withdrew from the Japanese market about six months ago.
