Recent information saying that Microsoft has sold only 503 Kin One and Two phones is probably not real. The reason is very simple: as Kin requires users’ registration of the Facebook application on the site, it is logical that the number of users who are active on Facebook should normally match the number of Kins. A last count included 8,810 users and it was confirmed by a source near Microsoft as being accurate.
The Kin effort was without question a bust, but the original rumor had no corroborating evidence. Microsoft also admitted it made a mistake and as a result discontinued the Kin project and did not build any more devices. The Kin was sold only for six weeks. There were stories mentioning that even Palm had significantly sold more of its phones for the same network, although it had to struggle for a long period.
Verizon is however committed to support existing Kin phones but is believed to stop selling this kind of phones when it will run out of stock.
