According to certain sources, T-Mobile would resurrect the Sidekick line and its next devices would be based on Android. The US division of the carrier has been working for some time on a Sidekick based on Android. There are not many details given, but it is believed that the same team that handled the custom user interface of the myTouch 3G Slide would also write the software for the Sidekick.
The HTC Vision is potentially the replacement. Although possibly a high-end phone, equipped with a dual-core Android 3.0-based processor, it has been included in Project Emerald, which is a T-Mobile development supposed to succeed to the Sidekick.
A replacement of the Sidekick created from scratch has been necessary as the takeover of Danger by Microsoft has put an end to devices which were relying on the original platform of Sidekick. Microsoft has forced the transition to the Windows CE version and also produced the Kin. In theory, the Kin was meant to provide an equivalent of the Sidekick to carriers such as Verizon. The device was axed in six weeks after its shipping.
