On July 1st, 2010, Opera claimed a handful of records by releasing its Opera 10.6. The company is currently trying to recover the title of the fastest browser – its JavaScript engine is said to be about 50 percent faster than the available and already quick 10.5. The application is, at the same time, the first refined browser to offer support for the controversial WebM video standard in HTML5; it even recognizes other new HTML5 features (for example, geolocation and web app caching).

The new application also has a handful of other changes: improved menus, icon tabs. There are more search options available, including Bing for the overall search engine, as well as search suggestions which will often push Wikipedia to the front. The design is mostly the same as that of previous versions, centering on concepts such as the Speed Dial, to jump to recent visited sites quickly, as well as visual tabs which show thumbnails of the pages themselves. Opera’s new update is expected to be available for Linux, Mac OS and Windows.
