Gaurav Jain, Android Project Manager, said in an interview that Google Music should be released side-by-side with Android 3.0 before the end of 2010. He expects the music store to be launched alongside Android’s next major release, codenamed Gingerbread, during this fall. Jain also added in his talk with Calcalist (Israel) that mobile will most likely play the main role in the store from the outset.

The service has been first shown off as a showcase for Android 2.2; it will theoretically work with the current OS too. The current software from Google now supports intents, which could take requests from the web and push downloads straight to an Android-powered handset, even if the requests were made from a different computer. However, remote streaming from the store could need more.

Google hasn’t yet separately confirmed the exact release date; this could come later this year, when the company will probably have to face a streaming iTunes option.
