Verizon has already cut in half the prices of its Kin One and Kin Two. The Kin One costs now $30, while the Kin Two has dropped from $100 to only $50 on contract. Verizon has not mentioned an expiration date and means that prices are permanent.
Both devices are part of a much larger sale that includes the enV Touch, BlackBerry Storm2 and other devices. Many of these phones are old and about to reach the end of their respective lifecycles. The Kin phones are labeled as “new” by Verizon.
The price cut comes six weeks after both phones reached stores and may be the sign of possible sale problems. Microsoft’s Kin One and Two have been disadvantaged primarily by their price plan. The $70 plan is similar to a full smartphone plan with more features and third-party applications support. At present, most of the smartphone lineup of Verizon is close to the Kin pricing or even as good. There are Android devices with similar hardware or better, such as the LG Ally. The BlackBerry Curve 8530 model also had a similar price for its short lifespan.
There are also phones that undergo this early price slash, such as the Pre Plus or Pixi Plus from Palm. Both phones have similar prices to the Kin devices but sport more software features.
