Ryan Moore, head of the worldwide product marketing at Microsoft, declared that Kinect would be bought first by serious gamers. He said that the so-called “hardcore gamers” are always the first to buy devices. They will also acquire the motion controller.

The company wants to diversify the range of products that are to be released during the holiday in order to satisfy the requirements of these loyal buyers.

Microsoft’s executive also gave details about the launch of the Xbox 360 slimmer model. European consumers should benefit from similar pricing that includes price cuts for the outgoing Elite and Arcade models. Moore also discounted suspicions that the philosophy of the slim PS3 was copied by Microsoft. He said that the company had been planning a smaller Xbox before any announcement of Sony’s device. The new Xbox is part of a logical move to more efficient and smaller systems, a trend for console designs.

Valhalla is the architecture on which the new design is based. It has been developed for years and implies the merge of graphics and CPU into a single package which is less power-hungry. As the name suggests, this may be the Xbox 360’s final revision before a quite new system is released.
