An official Android 2.1 update for unlocked, SIM-free Hero phones has finally been posted by HTC in several European countries. According to reports, this update is available as an over-the-air download in countries like the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden and even Serbia. The company hasn’t released yet any similar updates for the G2 Touch versions, which are sold through different carriers, including Orange and T-Mobile.

HTC has also posted the new update as an image file on its own website; this comes in handy to users who haven’t received the initial over-the-air update. It is yet unclear if the update erases any existing data; therefore, creating a backup is highly recommended.
