The controlling trust of BBC has approved Project Canvas but also imposed some important conditions. They include accessing the platform for providers of content and ISPs, free-to-air access and industry consultation. The project is a web TV joint venture between BBC, Channel 4, Five, ITV, BT, Arqiva and TalkTalk and is meant to provide Internet content to TV.

The BBC, according to BBC Trust, will not have to pay more than twenty percent over its estimated costs of the project for a five-year period of time. Laws referring to competition, state aids as well as other terms are to be followed too.

Project Canvas once launched, Internet users will be allowed to access on-demand content including BBC iPlayer free of charge through their TVs. The date of the launch for Project Canvas is situated sometime during next spring.
