On June 23, Apple has announced that the white models of the iPhone 4 will not start shipping until the second half of July. The manufacturer claims that the white version proved to be more complicated to make than initially expected; therefore, shipments had to be delayed. Apple said that this hold up will not affect stock of the black version in any way. iPhone 4’s alternate color had to be excluded from the pre-order campaign just from the start, as a sign of production difficulties.
What caused this delay is not known; the two versions of Apple’s new smartphone use Gorilla Glass for both the front and the back – this seems to require a new strengthening procedure. It is also known that the white model need more parts than for earlier variants of the iPhone, as it includes individual front and back plates.
