As promised, Apple has recently released the iOS 4 for iPads and iPhones. The new 378MB update is meant to add various critical features, which include a limited amount of multitasking, iBooks, GameCenter and folders. Other minor updates are also available; for example, a more advanced photo sorting, as well as better HTML5 video support.
According to Apple, neither the iPhone 3G, nor the second-generation iPod touch have the memory to handle multitasking well enough. Therefore, multitasking is not available for the two devices.
The new update is currently proper for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but also for second- and third- generation iPod touch players. It seems that the iPads will benefit from the update starting later this year. The update is not available for the original iPhone and for the first-generation iPod touch, as their hardware is not capable of handling it. iTunes 9.2 is required for the patching, as well as checking for an update in the gadget’s general setup pane.
