Apple could get help from Samsung for producing iPads

Tips from the industry have recently revealed that Apple is in need for production help, as shipments of iPads have accelerated to 1.2 million each month. Apple had launched its iPad manufacturing 700,000 tablets per month, but the production has had to increase by more than two thirds, in order to keep up with customers’ demand. Kuo Ming-Chi, analyst at Digitimes Research, believes that Apple could reach a production of 2.5 million iPads every month, just before the end of this year.

In order to keep up with the workload, Apple could get some help from Samsung, which would be a second display maker. Most of the screens are still provided by LG Display, which has manufactured around 800,000-900,000 screens last month. However, Samsung will most likely be tasked with manufacturing 300,000 to 500,000 LCDs (9.7-inch) per month, starting this July.

The increase in production could be a sign of an international expansion, but also of an increase in demand in the USA, which is currently the largest market for iPads. Apple’s end-of-year estimates are very optimistic and, however, the current production rate could just eclipse the company’s predicted 2010 tablets sales. This could give the category a significant boost in overtaking netbooks within the next couple of years.
