Shailesh Nalawadi, Google project lead, said that Google Goggles will b reaching the iPhone in a short time. Neither the exact moment was mentioned nor in which application it would arrive, but it seems to be close to release.
The manager also added that users do not need Goggles exclusively. Google is making public programming interfaces (APIs) that would allow developers to use visual searches in their software.
Goggles is believed to be a minor advantage Android has over other smartphone platforms. It provides users with a built-in visual tool permitting them to find products, landscapes and other items without needing to type. Language translation has been added in more recent versions. The software, which was initially designed as a test application, is now standard in Android 2.1 and above and also plays into Android Market. It makes possible photographing QR codes that can jump directly to a certain application in the store. Application shortcuts could be available for the iPhone. They would only point to an iTunes address in order to work.
Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has stated that Google would stay on the iPhone regardless of the existent animosity between Google and Apple during recent months. Elements like Maps Navigation have been left off of the phone, but this is due more to the need for direct integration into default applications written for Apple rather than to inter-company relationships.
