Sprint has revealed that its previous first-day sales records have been beaten by the launch of the Evo 4G. No particular data has been given by the carrier, but it said that the Android handset sold three times the number of Palm Pre and Samsung Instinct sold on a single day. The high sales rate has triggered shortages at several stores, so that Sprint had to ship extra stock daily.

Factors that determined the significantly higher sales rate were the broader orientation towards smartphones and also the features of the device itself. Sprint has tried, since 2008, to utilize headlining phone launches in order to avoid the leave of customers towards the iPhone or other devices. The eventual advantages of the Pre and Instinct became obsolete at the moment of the iPhone shipping.

The Evo 4G is the first Android phone sporting 4G, a front video camera and a 4.3-inch screen. At the same time, it is the first 4G phone reaching the United States.

Successful selling is supposed to continue for at least the near future since there are a lot of pre-order customers who have been told they would not have the chance to get their phones from Sprint on the first day of the launch.

However, they could be eclipsed by the iPhone, as Apple is supposed to sell its phone in multiple countries since the start of its launch and is on the wave.
