Apple’s iAd model may be follower by Samsung into the mobile ad space. The Korean company has not been specific with its plans, but could place ads through phones and TVs once its application store for its platforms is ready. Samsung could start its own ad network or could buy one as an alternative.
This approach would not be meant to directly challenge Apple, as iAd is exclusively used on iPhone OS devices. However, companies could be given an incentive to choose Samsung’s devices, expecting more exposure and money too. Samsung’s poor representation in smartphones is perhaps compensated by being one of the largest companies that produce TVs and home electronics and therefore an appealing opportunity as an advertiser.
Apple, in creating iAd, acted to balance Google. This one, after the buyout of AdMob, has access to the largest mobile advertising network in the world. Samsung could feel the same pressure from Google as Apple does, because AdMob targets the Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian platforms that Samsung also uses.
