Sony Ericsson a few days ago confirmed a major upgrade for its Xperia X10 in the fall. This is part of the custom UXP interface layer refresh and would include new features and an upgrade to Android 2.1 as well. The X10 would get the same 720-pixel video recording as the Vivaz and also DLNA media sharing support offered over the local network.
The Xperia X10 mini pro and X10 mini will be upgraded at the same time, according to information coming from the company. A smaller update is also scheduled sooner to boost the performance of the full-size Xperia X10.
Sony Ericsson’s decision of shipping the Xperia X10 with the already old Android 1.6 instead of Android 2.1 has induced frustration to some smartphone owners, as it makes impossible running certain applications and features. An example could be the more advanced browser for the web. This problem is chronic for Android phones with custom interfaces. Phone makers like Motorola and HTC have spent significantly extra time to update and test their code before being able to apply an upgrade from Google.

Is it possible to upgrade old Xperia from Android 1.6 to 2.1?
