The Nexus One may be upgraded to 802.11n Wi-Fi when Android 2.2 will ship, as Broadcom and Google have discretely released new drivers for the Wi-Fi chipset of the smartphone. These drivers would enable 802.11n. Although the drivers are not yet part of the operating system, they were compiled for Android 2.1 and were successfully connected to the much faster wireless networking. Analysts observed that the hardware was capable to work at higher speeds but had not been used at its highest capacity until now.

Google has already hinted that the Nexus One may have a number of “unlocked” features when Android 2.2 is ready, perhaps on May 19th. One of these hidden and surprising features could be colour-coded illumination of the trackball when different kinds of notifications are issued.

Android is often updated between major releases, but these ones sometimes lag more than a month behind Google’s own development cycle and would roughly be ready at the same time Android 2.2 gets the drivers and becomes ready itself.
