Over 50,000 applications for the Android Market

As new statistics from AndroLib show, Android has reached the 50,000 application milestone. This happened just a week after Google’s official confirmation of the 38,000 application mark. A recent estimation shows the mobile application store has 10,000 new applications added within a few weeks. The number is not relevant for applications that have been pulled, but it covers applications not always listed with other official estimations.

The milestone is still far from the iPhones official 185,000, but shows an interesting trend, as Android Market has accelerated and the rate is now of almost 8,000 new applications per month. This way, the 100,000 mark could be reached sometime in September, if the rate remains the same. However, an increase is possible, as the greater number of Android 2.1 smartphones and the wider market contribute to the development.

The timeframe for an official update from Google is likely to be the upcoming I/O conference of the company, which will take place on May 19th.
