Google entices iPhone developers to use Android

Google is very active lately to entice iPhone developers to create for Android, as reported. The Android Advocacy Group seems to have contacted Texts From Last Night’s creator by a representative in order to establish a business relationship and also to ship a free Nexus One no matter whether the project is viable or not. Direct incentives were not offered to the programmer for an eventual agreement.

Google’s efforts are in contrast with what Apple does, as Texts From Last Night was systematically rejected for three months due to content problems. The App Store operator has not established a relationship with this developer.

Google has always trailed behind Apple with respect to the scope and the size of its mobile application community but it has however growing rapidly after launching Android 2.0 and the Motorola Droid last November. It has about 38,000 applications this month compared to the 16,000 applications in fall last year. Some of them have been ports of iPhone titles which have only little or no help from Google, although the latter’s policy claims to offer reference developer phones and permanent encouragement of the community’s feedback.
