Leica has confirmed its new V-Lux 20 camera. The device has been launched and is a reworked version of the Panasonic Lumix ZS7, but has Leica’s mark, the matte black finish and high-end materials while keeping the core functionality. The new V-Lux 20 is the first compact of Leica with 12× zoom lens and GPS-based geotagging, which makes it well fitted for travellers.

The point-and shoot captures have 12 megapixels, image stabilization and 720-pixel video at 60 frames per second in Motion JPEG. Options for manual controls are available for experienced users, such as in-between aperture and shutter priority modes. The inclusion of Photoshop Elements 8 dedicated to editing and managing photos once they are off the camera is another contribution aside Leica’s design.

Exact plans for shipping the camera to the United States were not unveiled, but it will be available in the United Kingdom in May. Pricing for the US is $699, $300 more than the price of the DS7, which is $399. A leather case is optional and costs £70 in the UK, but does not have a price for the United States.
