Canon has presented two pro-grade camcorders at NAB. Both cameras, the XF300 and XF305, use Canon’s XF Codec to be able to capture 50Mbps, 4:2:2 1,080-pixels video that can be stored directly on dual CompactFlash cards. The output provides twice as much colour resolution compared to regular high-definition video. It is also a general standard with Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Studio, Avid and other suites designed for editing.

Both cameras carry an 18× lens (29-527mm film equivalent) and have a new system for optical image stabilization that is designed for very long range shots, in addition to up close. Pro features include HD-SDI output, timecode input and output, gunlock and dual XLR inputs, as well as the usual stereo microphone jack. A 4-inch preview display is also included.

Canon did not specify what differences exist between the two cameras, the XF300 and XF305. Both devices will be available in June and the prices will be $6,799 for the XF300 and $7,999 for the XF305.
