HTC Hero to be upgraded to Android 2.1 in April

The HTC Hero smartphone would be upgraded to Android 2.1 on April 16th, as an e-mail received by an owner from HTC says. This date is scheduled for owners residing in Greece, Norway, Russia, South Africa and the Ukraine only, other markets following soon. The rumoured date is in contradiction with another earlier leak mentioning Sprint to upgrade the Hero to Android 2.1 a week earlier, which means on the 9th of April.

This release is a part of a wider plan of the company regarding the upgrade of every Android device with the most recent version 2.1 of the operating system. The update is meant to bring HTC’s Sense UI, an overall faster performance as well as a number of improvements such as a better screen navigation, voice typing, live wallpapers, a 3D photo gallery and others.

This is just another rumor. This is like the sixth time where they said we will be getting android 2.1 this is just pitiful.

The update for the Sprint Hero (CDMA – US) will not occur until, at the very least, THE END OF APRIL. Period. As you notice, as of today your date of April 9 is bogus. Let me assure you, so is your date of April 16. Any dates before the END OF APRIL are false. It may even go into May depending on how testing goes.

This is kinda old news. We’ve all known that the update is coming sense late last year. The big question here is, When will the US get the update? When, when, when??
