ASUS is likely to plan the release of a whole range of products sporting integrated USB 3.0 connections. The line-up is believed to include 15 main boards, the N-series of multimedia notebooks, the Eee Box 1210U and 1510U desktop PCs and the Eee PC 1015, 1016 and 1018 netbooks as well. Products like digital media players are also planned in the future. There is also a PCIe x4 bridge chip developed that will enable owners of older ASUS main boards to benefit from USB 3.0 support.

The ASUS P6X58D Premium main board is the first one to be officially certificated by the USB Implementation Forum (USB-IF) for complying with the new SuperSpeed USB requirements. ASUS was also the first company to out a main board with integrated USB 3.0 connections, the P7P55D/P7P55D-E board. There are also other new motherboards, ranging from entry-level to flagship, that support Intel P55, X58, 3450, H55, H75, G41 and P43 chipsets and the AMD’s 770, 780, 785G, 790FX, 870 and 880 chipsets as well.

The maximum transfer speed of the USB 3.0 is 4.8Gbps, i.e. ten times faster than the 480Mbps of the USB 2.0. As an example of the significantly improved speed, a 6GB file can be transferred in just 20 seconds when using an USB 3.0 interface.
