Samsung to release 3D LED TVs and R-series PMPs

has announced the release dates of its LED high-definition TVs introduced at CES, as well as the R-series of portable multimedia players.

The line-up of LED TVs includes devices with screen sizes between 19 and 65 inches. The first models will be available this month. The C7000, C8000 and C9000 series are supporting 3D content through a proprietary 3D processor supporting 3D format standards and a 240Hz refresh rate. They can also provide conversion of standard 2D video content into 3D in real time. The 46- and 55-inch C7000 are scheduled to ship this month too, at prices of $2,600 and $3,300 respectively. A $2,000 and 40-inch model will ship in May, while other models will be released in April: the 55-inch flagship C9000 at $7,000, the 46-inch version priced at $6,000, the $3,500 and 55-inch model, and the C8000 46-inch sized costing $2,800. Another 65-inch C8000 with a price set at $5,000 is due not earlier than July.

Buyers of these Samsung 3D HDTVs, 3D Blu-ray player or 3D home theatre system will get the 3D Starter Kit for free for a limited time. The normal price of the kit would be $350. It includes a 3D version of Monsters vs. Aliens as well as two pairs of active shutter glasses.

The non 3D-capable LED HDTVs will include the 46- and 55-inch C6800 models that will be released in May and will cost $3,000 and $2,300, respectively. The same sizes, but in the C6500 series, will reach the shelves in March with price tags of $2,800 and $2,100. Another 40-inch model will also be out this month and will cost $1,700. A 32-inch, as well as a 65-inch model will come in May and will cost $1,200 and $4,500, respectively.

40-, 46- and 55- inch models in the 6300-series TVs will launch this month at prices of $1,400, $1,700 and $2,500. A 60-inch version will come in May and will cost $3,000.

A similar series is C5000, with 32-, 40- and 46-inch devices, priced at $850, $1,200 and $1,500. A 55-inch C5000 model will be $2,300 when it launches in May.

And finally, the C4000 series will come in March, with four models: a 19-inch priced at $380 due in May and 22-, 26- and 32-inch models, priced at $430, $550 and $700 and being available in March.

A 3-inch touchscreen remote control is a notable accessory and will be sold separately at a price of $350. The remote will ship with C9000 TV sets and provides a live feed of the currently selected channel. Included are also an earphone jack and a Twin feature letting users to watch TV programs or Blu-ray discs on the TV and the remote simultaneously. The device is compatible only with the LED-lit C7000, C8000, LCD C750 as well as Plasma C7000 and C8000. The release date is scheduled in May. A LinkStick priced at $80 plugs into a USB 2.0 port of compatible devices and lets users connect to InfoLink RSS data and Samsung Applications. It will arrive in March too.

Samsung will also bring its R0 and R1 personal multimedia players to North America. The R1 uses a 2.4-inch LCD touchscreen and a battery life capable of providing energy up to 50 hours when viewing photos or playing music and four hours when watching video content. The device supports Bluetooth headphones and will come with an FM radio and recorder and voice recording too.

The R0 has a 2.6-inch screen and tactile keys for navigation. Battery life is providing six hours of video and also 30 hours of audio playback. A microSD memory card slot is provided as well.

They both have DivX support and can be purchased in black or silver, with 8GB or 16GB capacities. There is also a pink colour option for R0.

The PMPs will ship in April. The 8GB R1 is priced at $150, while the 16GB version is $180. R0 models with 8GB and 16GB will cost $100 and $130, respectively.
