Dell’s Adamo XPS seems to have reached its end

On March 9, 2010, Dell has provided an official explanation in what the disappearance of the Adamo XPS from most of the company’s online stores is concerned. The Texas PC builder claims that the ultraportable is in fact similar to a limited edition and that is hasn’t been designed as a long-term product. They call it an “engineering marvel”, which was meant to show what the manufacturer could do. The product seems to have reached its end.

Dell says that the Adamo XPS is still available at Best Buy. Its actual price ($2,000) is higher than the originally announced $1,800.

These statements simply contradict Dell’s positioning of the Adamo XPS, at the end of 2009, when the product has been released. The 13-inch has benefited from a regular unveiling and the company has never mentioned that it will only be available for a limited time. With a price of over $300 above the standard Adamo 13, the Adamo XPS has apparently seen low sales, as it had no speed advantage over the Adamo 13. The Adamo XPS has only been known as the world’s thinnest notebook, as it was about 0.4 inches thick.

Dell has not mentioned either if or when they will update the Adamo 13, which remains on sale, even if it is priced at 50 percent of last year’s price. Both systems were meant as rivals for the MacBook Air and have initially been sold at higher prices. Compared to Apple portables’ mid-tier Core 2 Duo S, except for the highest-end Adamo 13 variant, the systems run slower ultra-low voltage processors.
