HP has tried to bring its Windows slate into the light in a direct attack to the iPad. A recently released clip shows the tablet running Adobe’s Flash for some sites like Hulu and AIR for out-of-browser applications, such as Pandora radio. The presenters say that Flash is boosted by hardware and it would support high definition video for many hours on a battery charge.

The clip is backed by Adobe and brings to attention its criticisms of Apple. 85 percent of the top 100 sites showing on the ranking site Alexa use some form of Flash, while video on the web uses Flash in a 75 percent proportion. A further advantage would be that users do not have to load a separate application.

Apart from the plugin content, Hewlett Packard has also shown some elements of customization for the interface. The slate has a home area, a web browser slightly modified as well as large icons with clear touch areas. However, the company admitted that the current on-screen keyboard is virtually the same as Microsoft’s and is significantly smaller than the iPad’s.

Hewlett Packard expects the tablet to ship later this year, but it seems not to have enough hardware in development after the iPad’s early release in April.
