Dell’s pro notebook updates continue with the release of a new mid-range Precision model. The new M4500 is meant to replace the M4400 and, even if it has a more common 15.6-inch screen, it benefits from many of the 17-inch M6500’s performance features. The notebook can run up to a quad-core 2GHz Core i7 for a processor and also has the larger system’s 64GB SSD mini-card; this is a $220 option, which offers the M4500 a fast OS drive, but without sacrificing room for a normal hard disk.
The system can also benefit, as an option, from a dual-core i7 or i5 processor, but also from up to 1,333MHz DDR3 memory and dedicated NVIDIA workstation graphics; this seems to be less ambitious than the M6500’s Quadro FX 1800M or 880M. The new system gets a color-accurate display, which is able to show 100 percent of the sRGB space, but also a 3-megapixel camera and a Gobi multi-network 3G modem. It should also benefit from a fingerprint reader as a standard feature.
Dell has offered fewer details than it did for the Vostro updates. Despite this, the company has announced that the new Precision will most likely be available for order within the next few weeks.
