Pioneer intends to improve DJ mixers technology by launching new devices in addition to the DJM line. The DJM-2000 uses a 5.8-inch LCD to provide control better control over the sound than it would be possible when using buttons. At its basic level, musicians are allowed to put up a series of custom interfaces in order to control Mac or PC music software through MIDI. Gestures are also used to create “sidechain” mixing and frequency can be fine-tuned by using on-screen sliders.
New live instrument effects are possible, such as noise or crush, as well as popular techniques like new beat effects and live sampling of the microphone or output. Direct-to-computer connection is provided via USB. Four Ethernet ports allow digital turntables and other DJ gear from Pioneer to share a common pool of music available from SD card or USB sources. Pioneer’s notebooks with rekordbox applications are able to work directly with the mixer.
Unveiling of the DJM-20000 is early, but shipping would not take place until June and the price of the new device is $2,999.
