More details concerning Microsoft’s new phones, Pure and Turtle, have been leaking lately. The two new handsets seem to benefit from simple and possibly colorful designs. Moreover, it is already rumored that both the conventional Turtle and the squat-looking Pure will be soon available on Verizon. Despite the possible May or June release date, Engadget claims that Microsoft’s devices could be out on April 20th.
Microsoft’s marketing campaign is teenager-oriented and has recently received some details on a possible “truly, madly, deeply” slogan; this slogan was surfaced in early 2010, in a set of mysterious Twitter hashtags. Both the ads and the phone’s operating system are focusing on social networking.
With the release of the two new handsets, Microsoft intends to capture the near-smartphone market category and to also give this a presence of its own in the space currently occupied by Sidekick, which will most likely be replaced soon. Either will use a Windows Phone 7-like operating system, but more superficial and without having the smartphone-level features.
