On March 4th, 2010, a Motorola patent published at the US Patent and Trademark Office has been spotted, suggesting the idea that the company may be planning to combine handheld displays. Considering the fact that different sizes of displays are needed for various different tasks, the patent intends to allow two or more phones, mobile Internet devices or media players combine their displays in order to handle a single task. Besides the larger canvas offered, there will also be available the possibility to use several devices’ integrated keyboards and other controls for certain features. The new patent could also be expected to catch an inbound Internet video stream, being able to tell each of the attached screens to change their own output resolutions according to the quality of the 3G or Wi-Fi connection.

This patent is not yet seen as an indication of Motorola’s future plans file. Despite this, as it has already been mentioned in late 2008, it can open the door to special features when mobile devices are put near each other or to phones having multiple intelligent displays.
