AT&T’s 3G MicroCell router now benefits from extended availability, beyond the initial cities. New locations where customers can subscribe to the service include Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, San Diego and Las Vegas. The device is able to create a local 3G hotspot through an in-home broadband connection and offers direct back connection to the phone network.
Unlimited calling is also provided from the MicroCell network. It also makes the Internet-enabled devices able to connect through a strong 3G signal, if the Wi-Fi is not possible.
MicroCell’s price is not yet known (AT&T has not even finalized the cost structure), but is expected to vary depending on the client’s current plan.
In areas that have taken part into the pilot program, clients with AT&T Internet or landline telephone service were paying about $10 monthly. Subscribers limited to the cellphone plan seem to have been paying $20 per month. AT&T’s website provides specific availability information.
