In order to compete against LG and Panasonic Skype deals, Samsung has recently added Skype to its own TV sets. The software will be integrated into the LED7000 and the LED 8000, allowing video and audio calls through the Internet connection. Samsung recommends the Freetalk TV camera, as the company won’t benefit from a webcam option of its own. The new application will be available through the existing Samsung remote and should theoretically support the full feature set, which includes the free Skype-to-Skype and paid SkypeOut calls to any traditional phone number.
Starting February 25, 2010, Korean models will benefit from Skype. North America, as well as the rest of the world, will get Skype on Samsung’s TVs starting mid-2010 or even earlier.
