Lenovo has recently updated its highest-end series of ThinkPad W.

The first ThinkPad with USB 3.0 is the W701, which should support the 5Gbps standard dedicated to very fast external hard drives as well as future peripherals down the line. The large case of the W701 supports up from 8GB up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM and should be able to manage very sophisticated visual editing. The top system has a quad-core 2GHz Core i7 processor and can be provided with a maximum of Quadro FX 3800M to perform pro-level 3D rendering. Storage can vary from a 160GB hard drive to a 128GB SSD. The signature palmrest tablet is still present on the netbook. The W701ds has a slide-out secondary screen. The 17-inch main display is 100 percent colour-accurate and has a colour sensor that performs automatic calibration to different lighting environments. The standard ThinkPad W701 starts at $2,199 for a configuration including a quad 1.73GHz Core i7 and a Quadro FX 2800M. The W701ds has a price of $3,799.

The only desktop of the current offering is the ThinkServer TS200v. Although superficially considered a tweak of the TS200, it is the first server from Lenovo sporting the Active Management Technology (AMT) from Intel and provides IT administrators with a higher level of control over the systems in a network. As a consequence, systems can be checked outside of a fully active state and can be recovered in case of a failed operating system without needing to recur to special software. Furthermore, systems believed to carry malware can be fenced off. The mini-tower is one of the cheapest servers made by Lenovo and its price starts below $400 for a version with a 2.26GHz Celeron processor. Neither hard drive nor RAM capacities are available, but upgrades can choose between a 2.8GHz Pentium and the Core i3 and i5 desktop range that includes the 3.46GHz i5.
