Mini, BMW’s sub-label, has recently declared that the 2011 Mini Countryman will be among the first cars to benefit from tight application-level integration with Apple’s iPhone. An optional central computing system, also known as Mini Connected, will be included in the semi-rugged compact. This will communicate with the iPhone through two different native applications. A “web radio” application will be able to reach any of the listed Internet radio stations through the handset’s 3G connection. Using the car’s own interface, the Mini’s center column display will offer control over the radio stations.

Besides the radio feature, there will also be a Mission Control feature; this was first seen on Mini 50 Camden. The connection to the iPhone will also offer weather and other live information, as well as offline data, such as alerts and current conditions of the car.

The option available for Mini cars has not yet been given a price. Moreover, the company has not mentioned if 2011 models ordered with Mini Connected will suffer any delays. The other variants of the car will probably get the new features in the future.
