NVIDIA Ion video acceleration for Chromium OS

Chromium, Chrome’s OS open-source variant, has recently received the first GPU acceleration through Flow, the custom version. The new variant benefits from hardware acceleration through an NVIDIA Ion chipset and it is very possible that it will also get basic support and added performance in some areas which is able to use the faster-than-usual graphics. There is also a proper support for automatic updates and the battery offers more power.

The specialized Chromium version can boot directly from a USB; it needs a 2GB or larger flash drive if it has no components installed on a PC’s own HDD. It is yet unknown if improvements made to Flow will be transmitted through the Chromium OS branch.

It seems that Google won’t add Ion support into the Chrome OS because there are some very strict requirements in what the hardware to work with is concerned. GPU support may be added; NVIDIA Tegra processors also get this software.
