Hewlett Packard has grown its camera line in a spectacular way by adding new point-and-shoot cameras as well as its own camcorders. The least expensive camcorders ever able to shoot at 1,080-pixel, V5061u and V5560u, carry 3-inch touchscreens and also have motion-tracking focus. Their prices are lower because they use a 5x optical zoom lens and have an SDHC option instead of using a significant amount of internal storage.

The main advantage of the V5560u is the support for proper 1,080-pixel widescreen (1,920×1,080), compared to a 4:3 ratio (1,440×1,080). It also sports dual SDHC cards and can run on AA batteries, which is very appreciated by tourists who may not have the opportunity of recharging the lithium-ion pack. The V5560u will cost $199, while the V5061u will be $169. The two camcorders should be available during this spring.

HP also presented the V1020h pocket camcorder, which, like the Flip Ultra HD, can capture at 720-pixek and has a built-in USB connector for uploading videos as well as HDMI to preview footage at its native resolution. Hewlett Packard leaves only 128MB of built-in memory and relies on SDHC cards to increase the memory’s capacity. The other highlight of the camcorder is the software-based IS. Shipping is scheduled this summer and the price will be $109.

As for still image cameras, the PW460t and CW450t are leading the series. They both shoot at 12-megapixel with 4x lenses and are provided with touchscreens as key interfaces. They differ in display size and batteries used. The PW460t has a 3-inch LCD and a lithium-ion battery, while the CW450t sports a 2.7-inch panel and is powered by AA batteries. The prices are $149 and $109, respectively.

The rest of the cameras in the line are more conventional. The PW550z, the most advanced in the line, has a 5x wide-angle lens (28-140mm equivalent) and a 2.7-inch LCD. The battery is a lithium-ion and the price is $149. Other cameras, the CW450 and SW450, are non-touch versions of the CW450t and PW460t. Their prices will be $99 and $129, respectively.
