A day after Nokia and Intel have announced the merging of their respective mobile Linux variants, LG has officially confirmed that its new smartphone, the GW990, will use the also new MeeGo operating system. Therefore, the new LG smartphone will most probably be the first MeeGo phone to be launched. Until now, it was rumored that LG’s GW990 would use Moblin, which is Intel’s Linux-based OS.
It is still unknown if Nokia will make a similar transition from the Maemo platform for the N900. The new jointly developed operating system from Nokia and Intel will probably be used for other devices too.

LG’s GW990 will be launched in Korea, somewhere during the second half of this year and will most probably be released in other countries too. This will be the first smartphone based on an Intel processor. It will also be based on the upcoming Moorestown platform, able to make an Atom fit into a smartphone’s tight spaces.
