Samsung has recently released, through an extra launch, the i8520, which seems to be the new Android leader. The device is called the Beam and is the first Samsung handset based on Android 2.1. Therefore, thanks to this new OS, it has a voice recognition feature and Google Maps Navigation as well. There is also a Bada-like version of the Beam, which has its own variant of TouchWiz 3.0 for widgets and other parts of the interface.

The phone’s name is inspired from the built-in DLP pico projector, which casts a 6-lumen image and also has its own customized interface, when it’s blown up to the larger size. Samsung’s new, unique implementation is able to show the 5-megapixel camera’s sensor image through a projector for specialized occasions (for example, viewing documents in classrooms).

The new phone from Samsung features a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, 3G, GPS and 802.11n Wi-Fi, as well as 16GB of internal memory and a microSDHC slot.

Beam’s release will most likely take place somewhere during summer; it may also be possible that Samsung focuses first on certain regions, like Asia and Europe, especially because of the lack of North America 3G from the outset.
