Vodafone UK has a new strategy to attract more iPhone users

The SIM-only options for service from Vodafone UK have recently been extended with a new opportunity for iPhone users. The new £25 ($39) monthly plan offers to unlocked phone users 600 minutes and 1GB of data, as well as unlimited messaging and free access to BT’s Wi-Fi hotspots. Vodafone sees this as a strategy for attracting new clients and determining iPhone users to switch from other networks to Vodafone, without really taking a step backwards.

The strategy is a bit weird, as it depends on iPhone owners who have an unlocked version of this smartphone. Unlocked Nokia phones or other brands are very common in the UK, but unlocked iPhones are currently not available from official sources in the country. As a result, users would have to buy an unlocked iPhone from abroad (for example, from France) or jailbreak and unlock the phones by themselves.

On an Orange iPhone plan, iPhone users are limited to 750MB of monthly data. Therefore, Vodafone’s new plan seems to be designed mainly for Orange’s iPhone users.
