Dell Adamo 13 cheaper at $999, not updated

The price for the Dell Adamo 13 was silently cut at $999. A base model with a 1.4GHz processor is now $500 cheaper than it was a few months ago. Its initial price when it was launched about ten months ago was $1,999. The system has however not been upgraded since then.

A faster version with a 2.1GHz processor also has a lower price now, $1,799 instead of the initial $2,299. In this case, there are improvements compared to the first model and these include an upgraded chip, a double capacity of RAM, a 3G modem and a double SSD drive space.

There are not official reasons for this cut of prices but suppositions are that Dell intends to clear out stock. A reason could be either the future use of ultra-low voltage Core i5 and i7 processors or dropping the PC in favour of the thinner and also more expensive Adamo XPS.

The Adamo 13 was meant to be a competitor to the MacBook Air but its high price and also relatively low performance have not allowed Dell’s device to successfully compete with its rival. Apple has used the faster Core 2 Duo S since the release of the MacBook Air, a year before the Adamo. It also made two performance upgrades, both of them having the significantly faster GeForce 9400M video.
