Satoru Iwata, the chief of Nintendo, has declared the iPad would not affect his company’s business related to game consoles. He did not admit the iPad would be a bigger iPod touch and also did not find the new device surprising at all. Iwata did not comment the impact of the new platform regardless of its size either.

These discussions related to the iPad come just after the late 2009 launch of the Nintendo’s DSi LL, a larger version itself of the DSi. Compared to Apple’s device, the larger screens of Nintendo’s DSi LL are not providing a higher resolution, new software features or upgraded performance. They are instead meant to poor-sighted play.

Satoru Iwata admitted that Nintendo was working on new models of consoles but did not provide any details about future directions. Rumours show the Japanese console maker’s sales are affected by Apple’s competition, as many customers have preferred to buy an iPod touch or an iPhone. Although the prices of these devices have been higher, the advantage of buying less expensive games has decided in favour of Apple. Many of these games cost $10 or even less, while a typical DS game is priced at $30 or $40.
