A prototype of the Dell tablet, presented at CES as the Mini 5, has been seen in the Shenzhen black market. The tablet was marked as “Model M01M” under its battery cover. There is at least one unofficial retailer who has been selling the device for the price of 7,500 yuan, the equivalent of $1,098, and maybe more than what Dell would require for the end product.
Specifications of the device include a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-inch, 800×480 touchscreen and wireless access through Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth. The device comes with Android 1.6. A 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and two microSD card slots complete the specifications of the Dell tablet.
Dell has never officially announced the production of the Mini 5 tablet, although continuing to develop it makes this hypothesis very likely.
