Sony has made a plan to fight against Apple by opening its own flagship retail stores. Starting with Sony Store Nagoya, these stores will follow the multi-floor design of Apple’s flagships, such as Ginza, and will use large display areas divided by categories. The first floor of the Nagoya store will be focused on portable devices like Handycam and Cyber-shot cameras, Sony-Ericsson handsets, Walkman players, the PSP and VAIO PCs. The second floor will display home theatre equipment, such as TV sets and Blu-ray players.

Even staffing will copy Apple’s by including “stylists” who will provide help for customers on choosing devices besides handling purchases. They will be unique by providing customer feedback to Sony, according to the company. The company already provides service at some stores of its own, while staffers on the second floor will teach customers to use the devices they own, in a similar way to the Apple Genius role.

The Nagoya store will open on the 13th of March and other stores will open in the future, but there is no information about international locations that could eventually be involved. Existing locations like Sony Store and Sony Style are not expected to close at least on a short term.
